Illegal migrants from Afghanistan forced through Transcarpathia to European Union

Seven illegal migrants – three men, four women and two children of the age up to 5 years old were apprehended by the border guards of BD “Luzhanka” in Transcarpathian region.  In the course of interviewing it was learnt that detainees were citizens of Afghanistan. They reported about their plans to get to one of EU countries. Afghans arrived to Transcarpathia by train from Odessa. They were already waited at the place by the smuggler, who promised to help in their illegal trip. The smuggler was Ukrainian being detained together with Afghans. At the present moment detainees are delivered to department of BS “Luzhanka”, where filtration measures are carried out as to establishing of other participated persons.

Afghan family were walking on foot through Ukrainian-Slovakian border

Afoot to Europe. In Transcarpathia border guards detained Afghan family with five under age children. They intended to cross illegally Ukrainian-Slovakian border. The family were detained.

The family of illegal migrants from Afghanistan were noticed by the border guards nearby Ukrainian-Slovakian border. They were accompanied by a local resident.

Field engineer, detained Afghan man, father of five children:

– We were promised in Afghanistan that we will go by car to Europe, if we need to go on foot so it will take maximum twenty minutes. We paid $60 thousand in order to get to Europe. On this purpose we sold our house and we have no place to return to. There is the pressure of Taliban and chaos in Afghanistan. Our relatives live in Germany and Holland. We wanted to go to them.

The wife of the field engineer worked as a doctor in Afghanistan. But constant fear of war made their family to flee the country.

The Afghan family was given a separate room with TV set and toys for children in Chop detention centre. According to the words of border guards, the family will stay here until they are identified as they did not have any documents.

Eduard Dudkevych, the head of Department on Work with Foreigners of Chop Border Detachment:

– Inquiry on the case will be instituted during 10 days. They will be either expelled from the territory of Ukraine or in case they apply for refugee status inUkraine– Migration Service will make decision on this status granting.

This year, Chop border guards detained five Afghan families with under age children. All of them addressed to Ukrainian Migration Service aiming at granting refugee status. This fact permitted them to avoid compulsory return to motherland and stay in Ukraine.

Illegal migrants from Afghanistan with 5 children were detained in Transcarpathia

Citizens of Afghanistan intending to get to EU countries with five minors were detained by the border guards of BD “Uzhgorod” of Chop Detachment. Detail conducted apprehension seeing the group of person moving in the direction to state border. The border guards made two warning shoots up during the stop of the violator, who took “travellers” and tried to run away. In the course of the interview it was established that detained men and woman were the citizens of Afghanistan together with under age children were trying to get to one of the countries of European Union.  Documents were prepared on administrative execution concerning the smuggler, resident of the village of Kamyanytsya, Uzhgorod area. Now the border guards establish the circle of persons who could be involved in the organization of the crossing.

Border guards together with service dog apprehended 4 citizens of Vietnam

Illegal migrants from Vietnam were detained by the border guards in Transcarpathia. Four citizens of Vietnam were detected after operation of technical devices of border security with the help of service dog in the area of border post “Onokovtsy” of BS “Uzhgorod”. As it was established, detainees planned to get illegally to the countries of European Union. So, now the court will specify the measure of their punishment.

Resident from Uzhgorod was arrested together with the group of “Somali pirates” in Mukachevo

Law enforcement agents detained a group of illegal migrants composed of 3 citizens of Somalia in town of Mukachevo, Transcarpathian region. The migrants were in the car driven by 28-year-old resident of Uzhgorod area. Foreigners and Uzhgorod taxi-driver were detained and handed over to border guards. Investigation is carried out by the facts of law violation – presence of illegal migrants on the territoryof Transcarpathia and assistance to them on the territory of the region.

Illegal migrants from Afghanistan could not get over the border in Transcarpathia

Border guards of Chop Detachment detained a group of illegal migrants from Republic of Afghanistan.  Travellers intended to get illegally to one of EU countries crossing the state border in the area of BS “Novoselytsya”. However, their intentions were not realized because one of the local residents noticed the group of five unfamiliar persons of Asian appearance and called to border subdivision informing border guards about this. In the course of five minutes, administrative-operative group headed personally by the commander of the subdivision started a search of unfamiliar persons. In 20 minutes group of illegal migrants was detained on the way to the state border. At the present moment, administrative-procedural actions are hold. The future destiny of the travellers will be decided by the court.

Illegal migrants from Somalia and Georgia were trying to get to EU countries

11 citizens of Somalia were detained by the border guards of BS “Guta”, Transcarpathian region. Men of African appearance were detected by the border detail in the morning during the monitoring Ukrainian-Slovakian border with help of service dog Astei. 10 unfamiliar persons did not get the border line and they were detained400 m before it. Seeing border guards, violators tried to scamper away, but the warning shoots up stopped them anyway. Inspecting the adjacent area, the law enforcement agents detected soon one more trespasser, who intended to hide.  All of them were citizens of Somalia who were trying to get to EU countries in the search of better life. Now, detainees are in the detention centre of Chop Border Detachment and their further destiny will be decided by the court.

Another group of seekers of better destiny were apprehended by the border guards of the same department. They were 5 citizens of Georgia. Men were noticed with the help of mobile thermal imager. Detainees of 34-39 years old reported that they made their way to the countries of Western Europe. They decided to reach the state border on foot orienting on the map. However, they got lost and they spent much time in unfamiliar mountainous area.

Two Iranians with strange passports were detained in “Boryspil”

Border guards of separate check point “Kyiv” detained two men. Two passengers arriving from Turkey named themselves the citizens of Netherlands during the passport control. However, while identifying them the border guards established that presented documents to check did not belong to them. Soon, it was learned that travellers were citizens of Iran. The very detainees confessed that strange passports and plastic cards they bought during their stay in Thailand for €6000. In such a way, Iranians intended to get to the countries of Western Europe.

The first Parliament of Children-Refugees in Europe started its work in Ukraine

The first in Europe International Parliament of Children from refugee families started its work inUkraine. It was formed with the support of Danish Refugee Council and Congress of National Minorities of Ukraine.

Now, the members of International Parliament are more than 10 girls from the families of Afghani refugees in Kyiv, there are active Committees beyond the city formed by the children from the families of Afghanis, Pakistanis and Syrians. They contact each other by email, use Skype: it allows the teenagers to be in constant contact, define problems and targets, which bother them and need solution.

The first decision made by the parliament majority was to gather humanitarian aid for asylum seekers. There is a big box in Kyiv centre of Congress of National Minorities of Ukraine, where clothes and footwear are put for such families. Then Parliament voted for participation in All-Ukrainian action “Stop racism!” children-refugees and asylum seekers created a series of drawings as to this topic.

Radio Freedom, its speaker 14-year-old Nyulam reported about formation and activity of International Parliament.

«Interesting people fromDenmark visited us in summer. They conducted competitions and trainings with us as well as told us about the problems of the refugees, – she says. – I was born inUkraine – my parents are refugees. I have some friends; they are from families of Afghani refugees as well: we decided to form our own body of administration in order to help each other and families of asylum seekers. We addressed to families of refugees from other towns/cities ofUkraine and proposed to cooperate with us and take part in the work of our parliament”.
Youthful Parliament in action: projects and proposals   

At the agenda of Youthful Parliament there is publication of collection “I have right!” with information about Ukrainian and international acts (laws) in the field of children and refugees’ rights protection. There is also organization of cooperation with Ukrainian and European schools in the plans of the parliament, where children from families of refugees study.

According to her words, mutual understanding between children-refugees and Ukrainian children of the same age assists in participation of common creative actions or sports events.

«We communicate on different topics: I tell about our holy book the Koran, and my new friends – about the Bible. My Ukrainian friends like to tell about national dishes, about borsch, sweets, and I retell about Afghani cuisine », – Nyulam reported.

Odessa story of success  

The expert of Danish Refugee Council Evhenia Mazurenko supposes that creation of Parliament is important for understanding between the refugees from different countries and for integration of children-refugees into society. International Parliament of Children-Refugees is the first similar institution in Europe and Ukrainian experience will obviously interest governments, which have the problem of social and psychological integration of families of refugees into society, – she mentions.

Besides, the Council supports also a series of interesting projects allowing to children-refugees to become successful in Ukraine.

«We have an interesting story inOdessa. There is one active boy (from the family of refugees). This boy collected a team of football players of the same age. This is a team on mini-football, five Afghani children and four Ukrainian ones. For the expenses of Danish Refugee Council they bought uniform, footwear and all other things necessary for playing football. During summer, this team won 5 matches! Then this boy was invited to children team of FT “Chornomorets”.

By the way, International Parliament of children-refugees will soon address to National Agency of Ukraine as to preparation to Euro-2012 with a proposal to includeOdessateam to participation in the ceremony of balls service to participants of championship. The majority votes for this decision.

Family from Syria under the cover of night wanted to rush the border of Transcarpathia

Late in the evening, border guards of BS “Luzhanka” detained three persons – two adults: woman and man and their minor son in the distance of 1000 m from the state border line in the suburb of the village Astey, Berehovo district. As it was established during the interview, detainees were citizens of Syria. Also in the course of primary questioning, detainees reported about their arrival to Ukraine by plane from Syria to Turkey, and then they came to Ukraine, namely to Odessa. The Syrians stayed inOdessa2 months and rented a flat for residence. Then, they took taxi to the village Astey, Berehovo district. The citizens of Syria learned about the state border of Ukraine with Hungarian Republic from the Internet. Now, detainees are in the detention centre of Chop BD. The court will decide their future destiny.
