SSU instituted proceeding against resident of Transcarpathia for transportation of illegal migrants

A criminal case is instituted against the Ukrainian who intended to transport 5 citizens of Somalia illegally through the border in Transcarpathian region.

The SSU officers together with border guards stopped the activity of international channel of illegal smuggling of persons through the state border of Ukraine. On August 12, law enforcement agents detained a car with five citizens of Somalia in the road Uzhgorod-Perechyn nearby the village of Kamynytsya, Uzhgorod district. The passengers neither had any documents identifying their personality nor papers allowing them to stay on the territory of Ukraine. The car was driven by a citizen of Ukraine. It was established that he met Somalis in the suburb of Uzhgorod and planned to smuggle them through Ukrainian-Slovakian border. The SSU inspectors in Transcarpathian region instituted a criminal case against the criminal as to the signs of a crime foreseen by Part 2 Article 332 (illegal transportation of group of persons through the state border of Ukraine) of Criminal Code of Ukraine. Legislation foresees punishment for this crime in the form of imprisonment for the period from 5 to 7 years.
