Appeal Court of Transcarpathian region has left the sentence of Uzhgorod Municipal District Court without changes concerning five local residents, who in 2011 smuggled illegal migrants through the state border of Ukraine.
It was established that in January 2011, the malefactors (former border guards and worker of State Auto-mobile Inspection were among them) agreed to participate in illegal transportation of 9 Afghans through Ukrainian-Hungarian state border.
Police agents clarified that the members of the criminal grouping provided illegal migrants with the transportation, residence, meals and direct delivery to border line, where then they had to be smuggled beyond the check points through the state border to Hungary.
The malefactors decided to transport migrants from Afghanistan through the state border by small groups.
In the end of January 2011, SSU officer detained two cars with foreigners and accompanied persons nearby the village Velykaya Dobron, Uzhgorod district.
Transcarpathian SSU officers commenced a criminal case against the participants of illegal transportation in accordance with Part 2 Article 332 of Crime Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons through the state border of Ukraine commenced due to the preliminary agreement).
By the court sentence, five malefactors were recognized as guilty and were appointed the punishment in the form of 3 years of imprisonment with probation term from 1 to 3 years to each.
