Georgian sent friends to Slovakia through a “hole” at the border in Transcarpathia

Public Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathian region has already directed a criminal case to the court concerning the citizen of Georgia, who organized illegal transportation of four his country fellows through the state border of Ukraine. This kind of crime is punished by imprisonment for the term from three to seven years with confiscation of means of crime commitment.

It was established that Georgian permanently living in Mukachevo and working as a taxi driver, on July 5, 2012 met a bus with four citizens of Georgia, settled and then took to the forest in Perechyn district not far from the border on Slovakian Republic.

Taxi driver took their passport and $400, showed the route on which they came to the fence of barbed wire at the border line. Making a hole, migrants set off to EU countries. In the morning, they got to one of Slovakian villages, where they were detained by local border guards and delivered to Ukraine.

Trio of “tourists” from Bangladesh were looking for tunnel in Transcarpathia

At night, “tourists” were caught at Ukrainian-Slovakian border. Poor men had to move just 500 metres to border line. Here they met MOI officers, workers of the company of BS and border detail of Uzhgorod. Three adult men without any document presented themselves as citizens of Bangladesh. Now, detainees are in Chop Border Detachment.

Border guards took a loving couple of Afghans from train Odessa-Uzhgorod

Border guards of Lvov Detachment detected two citizens of Afghanistan 23-year-old man and woman of 21 at Lvov Railway Station in the train № 108 «Odessa-Uzhgorod». During a talk with detainees border guards established that they arrived from Kabul (Afghanistan) to Ukraine in July, namely to Odessa. Then, they arrived to Lvov. From here they intended to get to EU countries through Transcarpathia aiming at looking for better life conditions. After confession, border guards handed young couple from Afghanistan to Lvov Migration Service.

Illegal migrants from Syria could not get to Slovakia through Transcarpathia

Transcarpathian border guards detained three illegal migrants not far from the state border. Three citizens of Syria were apprehended by the border guards of BS “Uzhgorod” of Chop Border Detachment almost at the very line of the border on Slovakia. Syrians did not have any documents.

Only during the last month, border guards detained 18 citizens of Syria, 4 of them tried to cross the border illegally.

“Way to West” leads migrants to the village Zhuravychi, Volyn

Foreigners often get to Volyn Temporary Holding Facility in the v. Zhuravychi from crossing points in Chop and Mostysk. The establishment is equipped on the base of former military town (opened in September 2008). The territory of the Centre is 21,2 hectares. It is designed for 165 places: 123 places (2 hostels) for men and 42 places for women and children. It was reported to participants of press tour from Uzhgorod press-club by director of THF, Valeriy Demchuk. 

Somali representatives (36) are in majority of those staying in the Centre, Afghans – 21, Moldavians – 7. In general, in the course of centre’s existence, representatives of 19 countries stayed in it. At the present moment, there are 98 persons. They often get here from crossing points in Chop and Mostysk.

According to the words of Centre’s director, migrants are led here by the “way to West”. As a rule, they are without documents. During the period of their personality establishment (not more than a year) court places them to THF. After that, other services are engaged in forced expel of migrants from Ukraine.

Director also told that after release, e.g. Somalis, go to Vinnytsya (there are a lot of their country fellows, human rights activists there), citizens of Afghanistan – to Odessa. Often detainees in the centre are visited by their relatives from West European countries.

There were two cases this year, when migrants left the Centre without permission (escaped from medical establishments).

The annual budget of the establishment comprises more than UAH 6 million. 142 persons work here.

There was a case when a baby was born in the Centre. The oldest migrant was 61 years old. Majority of persons are of the age 30 years old. There were a lot talented persons among the residents of the Centre – musicians, etc.

Meals in the Centre correspond to standards foreseen by appropriate regulations. As it was reported by the staff of the Centre, food allowance includes vegetables, meat and other products (at the same time, meat is foreseen less than for soldiers). Persons staying in the Centre are provided with the service of “away shop” – orders are made tentatively and then ordered items are brought from the shop. During Ramadan Muslims had supper at dark time as well as they were fed additionally at 2 a.m..

Volyn public organizations as well as representatives of UNHCR take care of migrants.

The participants of the press tour had opportunity to view the conditions in which foreigners live as well as to communicate with them. Thus, citizen of Bangladesh Dzhahid Hassan Dzhahid confessed in his intention to get to Italy. Now this man agrees to return to Bangladesh – according to his words he awaits for corresponding documents and a ticket.

The head of the Centre showed to journalists the reception office, library, hostels, school class, etc. By the way, since September three children of the foreigners in the Centre study in accordance with school syllabus.

In Transcarpathia border guards detained illegal migrants from Georgia without problems

Border guards of the post “Onokovtsy” of BS “Uzhgorod” of Chop Border Detachment stopped the attempt of the next voyage of the seekers of “European happiness”. Three men were detained when they tried to overcome the barrage fence. The violators confessed that they had arrived from Georgia and wanted to get to Slovakia. In contrast to recently detained country fellows, they abstained from escape and resistance to border guards. They did not have any documents identifying their personality, thus they were delivered to border subdivision in order to establish the circumstances of the infringement and working out of administrative and procedural documents. Decision about responsibility before the law and their further destiny of all detainees will be made by the court.

Undressed illegal migrants were detained in Transcarpathia on the bank of the river

In the area of BS “Solotvyno” border detail detected and detained three citizens without document and clothes on the bank of the river Tysa.  According to their words, they were citizens of Romania, 1995 and 1996 years of birth. As detainees reported they crossed Ukrainian border as they wished to have a rest at the Ukrainian bank of the river Tysa. It was seen from their appearance – Romanians were without clothes, just in swimming trunks.

At the preseтt moment protocols are prepared as to all three detainees in accordance with Part 202 and 204 of Criminal Code of Ukraine about administrative infringements. Future destiny of detainees will be decided by the court.

Science of survival for refugees with children in Transcarpathia

Meeting was hold in Uzhgorod press-club, the subject of which was “How should a child adapt in the environment of another government: support of social services, volunteers, non-governmental organizations».

Ivan Pirov, Music teacher in Mukachevo TAC,  Anatoliy Bylychko, social workers of International Fund of Health Well Being and Environment Conservation “NEEKA” and women-residents of Mukachevo TAC had a meeting with journalists.

Ivan Pirov stated that the syllabus introduced in TAC help children to adapt quicker in Ukrainian society. Even if a language barrier is hard to overcome in the beginning, so due to songs and dances it is easier to find common language with children. “If these children live in our environment, so my task is to teach them our song, communication, European mentality. These children attend Ukrainian school. Certainly, it is hard to get over the language barrier, but these children can learn Ukrainian on the communication level already in six months using correct approach. Peculiarities of our culture are learned with the help of movements, songs, melodic and mood».

Anatoliy Bylychko, social worker of International Fund of Health Well Being and Environment Conservation “NEEKA” has dwelled at length on special programmes existing due to NGOs of Transcarpathia. “There are programmes that help children to adapt in Ukrainian society, become its full members. Special lessons on tolerance are conducted for children, Ukrainian lessons are conducted separately. NGOs support with purchase of textbooks, school uniform, all necessary things starting from pencils to sport uniform, footwear.” Psychologist also works with children who had to leave their country of origin and got to Ukraine. He helps better perceive circumstances in which the child appears. He also conducts lessons on learning other religions, in particular, Christianity. As it was marked by Anatoliy Bylychko, there were no any conflicts in TAC on religious grounds.

This summer NEEKA conducted English-speaking camp for Mukachevo children together with kids from TAC. Games, joint stay of children of different nationalities promoted durable contacts, inter cultural exchange. According to the words of Anatoliy Bylychko, for the part of refugee-children Ukraine is really native as they were born here. And the first words they heard were also Ukrainian. Female residents of TAC demonstrated by singing in Ukrainian and communicating with the journalists the way they know Ukrainian and joined the culture of recently foreign country,

Uzhgorod press-club realizes project “Ukraine is my second motherland” at the support of Danish Refugee Council. The goal of the project is to support social adaptation and integration of refugee-children in Ukrainian society as well as attract attention to those problems they face in everyday life.

Two Georgians made their way to the countries of European Union

Border guards of BS “Kosyne” of Mukachevo Detachment detained two citizens intending to cross the state border in Transcarpathia.  Men were detained 150 m before the border line. They were two Georgians of the age 43 and 24 years old. The older man has lived in Ukraine since 1988 and he already received the citizenship of Ukraine. The younger of the detainees was the citizen of Georgia and not long ago arrived to Ukraine. Indicated persons tried to get illegally to one of the countries of European Union. They will bear responsibility for this in accordance with the present legislation of Ukraine.

Chop border guards detained Somalis and Georgians

Border guards of BS “Uzhgorod” of Chop Border Detachment detained citizens of Somalia and Georgia while they were trying to cross the border illegally.  

In both cases, alarm devices went off reacting upon the movement of unfamiliar persons. The citizens of Somalia trying to get to Slovakia did not put up a resistance and obediently implemented all demands of the border guards, but the group of representatives of Caucasian region in number of 4 persons this time had to be “communicated” with in another way.

After receiving a signal about appearance of unfamiliar persons nearby the border, service dog brought border guards to the quartet of illegal migrants in some minutes, who were in the distance of 300 m before the line of the state border. However, trespassers tried to run away and during detention border guards had to make warning shoot up. Even after detention, runaways continued to put up resistance and threatened border guards with physical punishment.

In a result of detention of four persons without documents identifying their personality introduced themselves as adult citizens of Georgia. They were delivered to subdivision in order to establish the circumstances of the infringement and preparation of administrative and procedural documents. They will be responsible for the resistance to the border guards and for the absence of documents identifying their personality as well as for the attempt of illegal cross of the border of Ukraine: decision about the extent of punishment and their further destiny will be decided by the court.
