Nine Afghanis, out of which 4 children, were travelling in a small hide in a minibus

The staff of State Border Service of Ukraine found 9 citizens of Afghanistan in a hide of a minibus. The vehicle of Moldavian registration crossed the border at international check point “Gremyach”. The citizens of Moldova travelled by it to Ukraine. In the course of the documents check border guards paid attention that 20-year-old driver had noticeably troubled look. That’s why the border guards initiated the detailed examination of the minibus. As it was established, the man was really worried. The luggage place of the minibus contained space covered by cardboards and bags with personal stuff of the passengers. There were 9 “passengers” hiding in that space. Four men, a woman and 4 children were the citizens of Afghanistan.

SSU workers were informed on that point. Found Afghans were delivered to border subdivision. The citizens of Moldova would have to give explanations to law enforcement agents.

Citizens of Nigeria and Gambia made their way to Poland illegally

In the airport Zhylyany border guards of separate check point “Kyiv” detained a passenger intending to fly to Dortmund illegally. The man presented the passport of the citizen of Lithuania for control, however it was established that the document was forged. The violator confessed that in reality he was the citizen of Nigeria and his brother assisted him in purchase of the false document. His brother sent him this passport by post from Germany, the place of his residence. Now, the personality of the detainee is under identification.

One more trespasser from Western Asia was apprehended by the border guards of BS “Morozovych” of Lviv Detachment some hundred meters before the state border. The man travelling to Poland without documents was detected by local residents in the suburb of the village Lishnya. During the interview it was learned that the man was the citizen of Gambia. He arrived to the territory of Ukraine as if with the aim to enter to one of Ukrainian higher educational establishments.  However, it was established that he decided not to get knowledge and to look for better fate in the countries of European Union. The further destiny of the detainee will be decided by the court.

District inspector rejected to assist in smuggling illegal migrants for reward

Border guards of Donetskyi Detachment learned about the appearance of unfamiliar persons nearby the border from local residents. Two unknown were detected not far from the village Shevchenky, Starobeshivskyi region in the area of responsible post “Pobeda”. During the interview, 48 and 39-year-old citizens of Ukraine for reward proposed to district inspector to smuggle through the border from Russia to Ukraine unfamiliar persons, citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The officer informed the board of Detachment about the present infringement. Detained citizens were handed to border guards for establishing the circumstances of the present violation of the law.

Seminar on counteraction to illegal migration takes place in Slovakia

On September 23–25, the second thematic seminar of Pilot Project 1 on counteraction to illegal migration of Target Initiative of Prague Process was hold in Bratislava (Slovakian Republic). In the course of the event, the representatives of member-states exchanged information about main achievement and challenges in the field of illegal migration counteraction including readmission and return as well as discussed possibilities of apply of the best experience of the problem in practice. SMS of Ukraine was presented by the chief specialist of Foreigners’ Identification, Voluntary Return and Readmission Department, Vaskov P.A.

Two Georgians were apprehended by border guards for the second time

Border guards of BS “Dilove” of Mukachevo Detachment serving at the
control post detected two trespassers. During the check of the regular
bus “Rakhiv-Kosivska”, it was established that two passengers did not
have any documents. The men reported that they were the citizens of
Georgia. Besides, soon it was learned that these citizens had already
been detained by the border guards this month. Then, the men intended
to get to Hungary avoiding the check point. Detainees were delivered
to border subdivision for case processing about administrative
infringement and conduct of checking actions.

Pecuniary Aid Commission to asylum seekers and refugees holds meeting

On September 26, there was a meeting of Pecuniary Aid Commission to asylum seekers and refugees conducted on the regular basis by Regional Representation of UNHCR in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine in the frames of the project realization “Local integration of refugees, phase II”. In the course of the meeting there were 35 cases of asylum seekers and refugees considered from Kyiv, 31 decisions were made on aid rendering and 4 decisions on reject in its granting.

Head of SMS of Ukraine conducts working meeting with Ambassador of Syria

On September 26, the head of State Migration Service of Ukraine M.M.
Kovalchuk with Ambassador of Syrian Arab Republic in Ukraine, Mr.
Mohamed Saiid Akilem participated in the working meeting during which
there were discussions on entering into a contract in the field of
readmission between Ukraine and Syria as well as cooperation in
migration sphere. SMS of Ukraine was presented by the chief assistant
Vasyl Grytsak, director of Refugee and Foreigner Department Nataliya
Naumenko and chief of Department of International Cooperation Denys
Shpak.

Maps from Internet did not help spouses from Russia to get to Austria

Two citizens of Russia have been recently detained by the border
guards of Chop Detachment in the area of BS “Onokivtsi” in
Transcarpathia. Border detail started immediately to look for the
possible trespassers after alarm system went off. In a result of
conducted actions border guards with service dog detected and detained
a man and woman 300 m before the border on Slovakia. The young persons
were the spouses informing that they were the citizens of Russian
Federation, however they could not confirm it by documents. Also
according to the words of the detainees it was established that each
of them were 25 years old and they planned illegal trip to EU, namely
to Austria, aiming at employment. Russians also told that they used
“Google maps” for working out their route beyond the check point.
However, it did not help the travelers. The trespassers were delivered
to subdivision of BS “Uzhgorod” for establishing the circumstances of
the infringement and processing administrative and procedural
documents. Decision on responsibility before the law and their further
destiny will be defined by the court.

Four Algerians, Israelite and Azerbaijani were stopped nearby the border

Four citizens of Algeria were apprehended by the border guards of BS
“Solotvyne” of Mukachevo Detachment. Overnight, local resident
informed about appearance of unfamiliar persons not far from the
border.  Soon, border guards noticed some persons on the bank of the
river Tysa with the help of night vision device. Strangers tried to
run away, but after warning shoots up made from special baton gun they
stopped. The travelers were without documents and told that they were
the citizens of Syria. However, in the course of further interview the
men confessed that in reality they were the citizens of Algeria.
One more trespasser, according to his words, the citizen of Israel
without documents was detained in Lviv oblast. The man was stopped 50
meters before Ukrainian-Polish border by the border guards of BS
“Ambukiv”.
The citizen of Azerbaijan intending to cross the border in “green”
corridor was stopped by the border guards of BS “Velyka Pysarivka” of
Sumy Detachment 5 m before the state border. In such a way the man
attempted to get to Russia as he did not have official permission to
enter the country.

Volyn TAC accepted 1167 illegal migrants in the course of 5 years

Volyn Temporary Accommodation Centre for foreigners and stateless
persons staying illegally in Ukraine has celebrated its 5th
anniversary from the moment of its opening. The first foreigners got
to Volyn TAC, located on the base of the former military town, on
September 11, 2008, and on September 12, 2008 its solemn opening was
hold. During the existence of the establishment there were 1167
illegal migrants placed there.
Foreigners are settled at two hostels designed for 123 bed-places.
Besides the hostels, there are premises for residence of women and
children, bathhouse, boiler house, health centre, stock room, two pump
stations, stock of fire point and dinning room with food block.
Illegal migrants are provided with all conditions necessary for
comfortable residence and free time spending. During the stay at the
establishment, explanatory work is conducted as to all foreigners in
accordance with the present legislation. Meetings are conducted for
the detainees with UNHCR, IOM and staff of Volyn department of Red
Cross in Ukraine, structural subdivisions of MOI, SSU of Ukraine,
human rights organizations as well as with relatives and foreign
friends. The workers of Volyn TAC also constantly carry out work as to
improvement of the conditions on keeping illegal migrants at the
establishment, assist them in contacts establishments with relatives,
representatives of Embassies of foreign governments in Ukraine,
humanitarian and human rights organizations  aiming at problem
solution on return of illegal migrants to their country of origin.
