A profitable business on illegal migrants’ smuggling has been livened up in Transcarpathia

Spring has started and a profitable business on illegal migrants’ smuggling through the border becomes more active. April-May are the most active months for criminal groups specializing on illegal migration.

Last week border guards together with the law enforcement agencies detained 5 groups of illegal migrants from Asia and Africa – total 21 persons.  According to the words of the border guards, only from the beginning of the present year 630 illegal migrants were apprehended for illegal cross of the border and violation of the rules on stay in Ukraine.  

Now the most part of illegal migrants registers in Sumy, Chernigov and Transcarpathian regions.  There is a convenient wooded area for the illegal migrants. While Transcarpathia is a transfer point to Europe, so Sumy and Chernigov regions are ones to Russia. The income of such a business is more than tolerable. A migrant, so to say, pays about $10 thousand to get from China to Germany. 

Now the border guards ambush at the border in Transcarpathian region. They also use the thermal imagers for observations of temperature distribution on the exploring surface and attract cynologists with the dogs.  The borders guards with the lawmen check the suspicious houses where for example, the illegal migrants were already been detained before.  Besides, if information about the time and location place of illegal group is known beforehand so a disguised ambush can be organized. 

READMISSION. For the present moment European Union returned about 130 illegal migrants, 20 of who were the immigrants from the countries of migration risk (Africa, Asia), the rest are Ukrainians.

The border guards unsheathe the sword to criminal groups specializing in illegal migrants

-State Border Service of Ukraine makes serious steps in liquidation of main channels of illegal migration at the most dangerous areas of state border – in Sumy, Chernihiv, Transcarpathian and Chernivtci regions. This statement was announced by the head of SBS – director of Department of State Border Security – Pavlo Shysholin. At the present moment SBSU together with law enforcement bodies implements a series of activities directed upon the increase of efficiency of their work. As a result, during the last week 5 groups of illegal migrants were detained originating from the countries of Southern-Eastern Asia and Africa – total 21 persons. Four of them were apprehended due to information of operative-searching bodies of State Border Service.

 – It is a positive dynamics, P.Shysholin reported, especially taking into consideration that not only foreigners were detained and also the smugglers who will be called to criminal responsibility. Besides, according to the article 332 of Criminal Code of Ukraine a criminal case was commenced against Ukrainian and Russian that smuggled the group of illegal migrants from Russia in Sumy region and concerning three citizens of Ukraine of Armenian origin who tried to take 9 Somalians and a citizen of Georgia to EU from Transcarpathia. All of them are sentenced to 3-7 years of imprisonment.  

– We are prognosticating that tension will grow because analysis of data of previous years shows that April – May are the most active months in the activity of the channels of illegal migration, – P.Shypolin indicated. We did everything to decrease the activity of criminal group in controlled border districts to zero. Besides, there are temporary border post and secreted details equipped with the thermal imagers at the most complicated areas , the cynologists with dogs are additionally involved. In the course of implementation of the operations to which operative-searching groups and mobile subdivisions will be involved, the alternative routing will be blocked with the examination of buildings and private houses where the illegal migrants can hide. The special attention will be paid to those inhabitants of the border area who have already been in the sight of the lawmen as those ones participating in illegal migration.

In General from the beginning of the present year the border guards detained about 250 illegal migrants – the trespassers, 380 persons were detained for the violation of the rules on stay in the country. And about 5 thousand potential illegal migrants were refused to enter Ukraine.

According to the data of EU experts, Central European route of illegal migrants goes through the territory of Ukraine to the countries of European Union. The most of them get to our country from Russian Federation. The tendency of the last years is a constant transformation of Ukraine from a transit state to a state of migrants’ settlement who actively form numerous diasporas. The other tendency – is increase of attempts to enter Ukraine by legal channels: for studies, with a tourist aim, employment, etc.

Illegal migrants from Sri Lanka and Georgia were forcing through the border in Transcarpathia

Slovakian border guards detained four citizens of Sri Lanka intending to get to Slovakia illegally. Illegal migrants who were making their way to European Union with the help of special technical devices were detected by the border guards at the adjacent territory and Ukrainian border guards were informed about this.

Four more illegal migrants, citizens of Afghanistan were detained the day before by the border guards of the frontier post “Velykyi Bereznyi” together with the officers of MOI. The foreigners were hiding in the suburb of the village Velykyi Bereznyi where most likely they were waiting for an opportune moment to cross the line of the border. Also, the other days, the detail of Border Service “Vilok” in Transcarpathia were observing unusual picture for this season. Unfamiliar man was swimming through the river Tysa from Ukrainian bank to Hungarian one. Ukrainian lawmen informed their colleagues on the other side about that swimmer. Soon Hungarian border guards stated about the detention of five illegal migrants – citizens of Georgia. It is still unknown if all the group of migrants was overcoming the way by swimming.

Generally, during the last weekends the workers of State Border Service of Ukraine detained 51 persons for the attempt to cross the state border illegally.

The resident of border village secreted Afghan illegal migrants

The officers of State Border Service and policemen detained 3 illegal migrants in Transcarpathian village Velykyi Bereznyi located nearby the border on Slovakia. The immigrants from Asia had been hiding in the house of one of the local inhabitants.  The foreigners did not have any documents. It was established before that they were the citizens of Afghanistan. One of them had a pack with 15 gramme of vegetable substance, probably marihuana.

Now this “grass” is sent for expertise. The Afghanis and a man giving them a shelter are detained. There are investigation works on clearing up the details of the trip of illegal migrants and persons participating in its organization.

Illegal migrants from Afghanistan took a three-year-old child into a dangerous trip along Carpathian woods

Already the third group of illegal migrants during the week was detained by the border guards in Transcarpathia. Five citizens of Afghanistan, three men and a woman with a three-year-old child, were making their way to Ukrainian-Hungarian border. At about 4 a.m. they were apprehended by the detail of Department “Goronglab” of Mukachevo Detachment. The foreigners did not have any documents, however they confessed that they got to Ukraine through Russian Federation, and from Kyiv they arrived to Transcarpathia. Now the filtration measures are carried out towards the detainees. This is the third group of illegal migrants for the last days detained by the border guards of Mukachevo Detachment.  The day before the border guards of Department “Luzhanka” detained two Afghanis and two Pakistanis 5 km before the border line who, by the way, were already detained by the border guards and were passed to corresponding bodies.  

As it gets warmer so the border guards forecast the growth in number of attempts to trespass the border by illegal migrants who have been waiting for the snow melting.   Generally, from the beginning of the present year the officers of State Border Service apprehended more than 230 illegal migrants for the illegal cross of the border, 150 out of which were caught at its western part.

9 illegal migrants from Somali and 4 smugglers were detained in Transcarpathia

The detail of department of Border Service “Vylok” of Mukachevo Detachment detained a cargo bus with the help of which illegal migrants were transported and a car accompanying it.    The border guards were informed by the officers of MIA of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region about possible transportation of the foreigners .  

The vehicles stopped at about 3 a.m. on the road “Berehovo-Vylok”. There were three men in the car – two citizens of Ukraine of Armenian origin and a Georgian.  The driver of the mini bus, a Ukrainian man, was trying to convince the lawmen that there were nobody inside the car and he had no keys from the bus body.   However, this did not help. Soon, pressing the lever in the cabin the doors of the cargo compartment opened.  There were 9 Africans inside. They were 4 men and 5 women. Illegal passengers named themselves as the citizens of Somalia.  They stated about their search of better life and their intentions to get to the countries of EU. According to their words, their documents were taken by the persons who had organized the illegal trip.

 Now the detainees are in TDC of Mukachevo Border Detachment.

The border guards apprehended three illegal migrants nearby Uzhgorod country houses

Three citizens of Georgia were detained at Ukrainian-Slovakian border attempting to trespass the border illegally. On March 21, 2010 at about 11 a.m. in the area of the border post “Onokovtsy” after actuation of alarm system C-175 in the distance of 50 m from the state border line with the help of the service dog three citizens of Georgia were apprehended.

The men in the age of 26-30 years old with no documents arrived to Transcarpathia aiming to cross the border and get to one of the countries of EU for employment and improvement of living conditions.

Now the detainees are in the temporary detention centre of Chop Border Detachment.  The future fate of the “travellers” will be assigned by Uzhgorod District Court.

Ukrainian and Russian men smuggling illegal migrants from Afghanistan were detained in Sumy region

On Saturday early in the morning the detail of border service “Shaligine” of Sumy Detachment keeping under observation the area of state border between the Ukrainian village Katerynivka and Russian one Gorodysche noticed a group of trespassers with the help of the thermal imager.  Three persons were attempting to go around the checkpoint “Katerynivka”.  

The lawmen with a service dog caught up the travellers, two of them were carrying the rucksacks with personal things. The last ones were without documents, however named themselves the citizens of Afghanistan. Their companion was 31-year-old inhabitant of the Ukrainian village Kobleve (Mykolaiiv region).  

At that time when the lawmen pursuing three travelers, a car arrived to the check point “Katerynivka” the driver of which attracted attention of the detail by his excited behavior.  46-year-old citizen of Moscow region was evidently hurrying up somewhere. In the course of thorough check of the car, a map with marked route from the border inland the region and a written notice about temporary allotment of shelter on the territory of RF for two citizens of Afghanistan were found.  As they both, the driver of the car and guide of the illegal migrants crossed the check point “Bachvsk” was an evidence of their acquaintance.

The detainees were delivered to border subdivision. However, an action was commenced against the Ukrainian and Russian for illegal convey of the persons through the state border.

4 citizens from Tunisia were apprehended in Chop – trespassers violated the rules of stay in Ukraine

The staff of department of Border Service detained 4 citizens of Tunisia at the railway station in the town of Chop. The foreigners were detected during the check of passengers’ documents in the train “Kharkiv-Uzhgorod”.  The men of the age 22-25 years old broke the rules of stay in the territory of Ukraine.  They had passports for travelling abroad and migration cards.  According to documents, the Tunisians arrived with tourist aim and indicated Kyiv the place of their stay.  However, they found themselves in a frontier Chop.

Transcarpathian border guards prevented two Moldavian illegal migrants from seeing Paris

In the morning the detail of department “Uzhgorod” of Chop Border Detachment caught up two illegal migrants 100 meters before the state border. The trespassers became the reason of alarm complex actuation. The detainees having no documents were 20- and 28-year-old citizens of Moldova. The foreigners informed about their searches of better life dreaming to get to France.
As it was cleared out, one of them was already detained in 2007 in Transcarpathian region for his attempt to cross Ukrainian border illegally.
